BOA Adventure Guide/ trainee

BOA is actively seeking individuals with some outdoor experience and a desire to gain or build upon that experience to join our BOA Adventure Guides program and help lead a growing slate of adventures and experiences in the outdoors.

You must identify with BOA’s mission of getting black and brown people outdoors for life changing experiences.


BOA aims to develop our adventure guides from guide trainees to full BOA guides through training, direction, experience and leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead small groups on/ during outdoor adventures including but not limited to surfing, skiing, white water rafting, hiking, retreats etc.

  • Execute on trip logistics, itinerary and schedule including check-ins, talking to vendors and more.

  • Lead in an engaging and authentic manner.

  • Prioritize the well-being and comfort of participants, creating a welcoming environment and safe space for all.

  • Create meaningful connections during adventures, going above and beyond to encourage interaction both with and amongst guests

  • Be a representation of BOA’s values, authenticity, and people centric culture to our community.

  • Have a knowledge of our brand and be a brand ambassador in the broader community.

  • Represent BOA at some local community or promotional events. Including social media.

Requirements

  • A valid driver's license

  • Some schooling

  • A love and curiosity for the outdoors with some knowledge of the NY Tri-state region.

  • Must be responsible, able to work safely and follow direction/instruction.

  • A self starter, with strong hospitality, customer service and communication skills.

  • The ability to multitask, improvise, and problem solve as needed, without sacrificing guest experience

  • A collaborative spirit, healthy sense of humor, and a passion for BOA’s mission of getting black and brown people outdoors for life changing experiences.

Nice to have:

  • CPR/ AED certification

  • Experience with groups

  • Experience leading events

  • Tourism experience

What is the BOA Outdoor Trainee program?:

A program designed to train and bring up outdoor leaders in communities of color so that we may further fulfill 2 missions.

  1. Get more black and brown people outdoors.

  2. Educate and train up leaders within and for our communities in outdoor skills and knowledge, to create supplemental income, lead adventures and so that they can pass this on generationally.

We know it’s a big mission but we’re here for it!

Training will consist of co-leading and shadowing co-leading leadership during BOA adventures to learn our style of leadership and interaction. Some courses such as CPR/ AED or Wilderness first aid may be required depending on experience level and the particular adventure being led.

Compensation: Based on experience
